Newbury Networks' WiFi Watchdog 3.0 Named Best of Show at Wi-Fi Planet Conference and Expo

BOSTON -- December 8, 2003 -- Newbury Networks Inc., the provider of the industry's first and only Wireless Detection System™ (WDS), today announced that its WiFi Watchdog 3.0 was named Best of Show at the recent Wi-Fi Planet Conference & Expo in San Jose, CA. WiFi Watchdog 3.0 was awarded for its technical achievement in the Security/Management category over a number of other 802.11-based WLAN monitoring and security products.

Through its patented location technology, WiFi Watchdog 3.0 provides the industry's only physical perimeter security capabilities for 802.11. The product delivers its award winning security features by enabling enterprises to prevent outside intruders from penetrating the network and legitimate inside users from associating with neighboring wireless networks outside or overlapping the enterprise.

"WiFi Watchdog 3.0 packs a one-two punch by not only being position aware but also pushing security policies based on location," said Eric Griffith, managing editor, Wi-Fi Planet.com. "When Newbury said a military customer tried to break into their system's perimeter security for three days without success - we believe them."

WiFi Watchdog 3.0 works with any standard WLAN deployment to detect, monitor and secure the location of all 802.11 traffic. It identifies any type of 802.11 device -- authorized or unauthorized - including rogue access points and then immediately alerts IT/Security personnel of any intruder actions.

"This prestigious award is yet another validation of what the market and our customers have been telling us about WiFi Watchdog's advantages over competing monitoring and detection systems for 802.11," said Michael Maggio, president and CEO, Newbury Networks. "With WiFi Watchdog's physical perimeter security capabilities, enterprises are better positioned to secure their networks from wireless intruders."

WiFi Watchdog 3.0 was announced last week at the Wi-Fi Planet Conference & Expo and is currently shipping.
