ATLANTA, GA - Sept. 9, 2002- Newbury Networks Inc., the first and only supplier of 802.11-based Location-Enabled Network solutions (LENs), today announced that its LocaleServer 2.1 was named a finalist in the Wireless Technologies category of the Best of Show Awards competition by CMP Media's Network Computing, CRN, VAR and EE Times.
The winners will be selected here at the NetWorld+Interop 2002 Atlanta conference, to be held September 10-12, 2002. LocaleServer is competing against Intermec Technologies and Symbol Technologies for the award.
LocaleServer, which is currently deployed at select customer sites, provisions, manages and monitors network and application services by location - capabilities only Newbury is delivering to its customers in a variety of industries and markets.
LocaleServer is the first of its kind application management platform for enabling a new breed of applications that leverage locations and services available to those running on 802.11-based WLANs. The set of new applications are targeted near term at vertical markets such as educational campuses, hospitality sites and museums, while laying the groundwork for the nascent markets of corporate campuses, healthcare and "big-box" retail.
The editors of Network Computing, CRN, VAR and EE Times, three of CMP Media's premier information technology publications, review over 100 submissions, evaluating new products. Finalists were then selected in five categories. LocaleServer was named a finalist in Wireless Technologies.
The Best of Show Awards are designed to help IT and network managers shorten the evaluation process in assessing new technology products. By identifying innovative products debuted at NetWorld+Interop, the Best of Show Awards assist in the quest for creative Internet-enabled solutions.
"Location aware technology is the future of 802.11-based applications and wireless networking," said Michael Maggio, president and CEO, Newbury Networks. "Over the past year, our customers in key vertical markets such as hotels, museums and universities have discovered innovative ways location-based services improve customer satisfaction and workforce productivity. LocaleServer provides a superior user experience, allows for better management of WLAN space and enhances revenue opportunities. With the ubiquitous nature of WLANs and the tremendous growth rate already taking place, we are confident that wireless location based technology will soon become an integral part of mainstream enterprise applications."
"When selecting finalists for the Best of Show Awards, we're looking for products that stand out from the competition by providing a unique solution to a problem or one that blazes new territory in the networking arena," explained Ron Anderson, lab director for Network Computing and head of the joint editorial judging for the Best of Show Awards.
"This year's list of entries was particularly broad and diverse, perhaps surprising given the industry downturn. It was a difficult task to narrow down these stellar entrants," said Loring Wirbel, editorial director of communications for CMP's Electronics Group.
Winners of the Best of Show at NetWorld+Interop 2002 Atlanta will be selected at the show and announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at the Atlanta Convention Center.
